Route: Karakol town – Chon Kyzyl Suu gorge – At Djailoo pass –  Djety Oguz valley – Tilety pass – Karakol gorge – Ala Kol Lake (pass) – Altyn Arashan gorge – Karakol town
Level of difficulty: program is suitable for active people with good health, able to acclimatize on 4000m above the sea level and make hiking passages for 5-7 hours a day. Average altitude difference during trek is 1000m.

Trek “Motley mountains turned away from the Sun” takes place in the Northern East part of Terskey Ala Too. The way will lead through the alpine meadows, beautiful forest zones with a great view to the mountains. Part of the way trail goes along the rivers. Before approaching Ala Kul Lake there is raging waterfall. Ala Kul Lake is situated at the altitude of 3532m above sea level. The Lake is surrounded by cliffs and Peaks of Terskey Ala Too range such as Karakol Peak (5216m), Jigit Peak (5117m) and many other impressive summits and glaciers. The length of the lake is 2,3 km long, 700 m wide. The Lake is frozen from October to May. The color of Ala kul Lake changes depending on time of the day, weather conditions or season: from dark blue to turquoise. From the Alakul pass opens amazing view to the lake and the whole area. Descending down to Altyn Arashan along the Keldike river, dive into the forest and reach final destination Altyn Arashan gorge with it's hot springs. Next day driving down the gorge on the military car till Ak Su village. Changing car. Transfer to Karakol town.

Day 1
Tamga/Karakol – Chon Kyzyl Suu gorge – footstep of Djili Suu pass (60-70km by car)

Transfer from Tamga/Karakol to Chon Kyzyl Suu gorge. Hike from Djili Suu Hot Springs to the footstep of Djili Suu pass. Overnight in tent camp. (LD)
Altitudes during the day (above sea level): Tamga village – 1800m; Djilisuu Hot spring (trekking start point – 2350), overnight point – 3350m
Elevation: +1000m (1550 from Tamga). Distance: around 6km. Time on the way: around 4-5 hours

Day 2
Djili Suu pass – At Dhailoo gorge

Hike over Djili Suu pass. Descent to the lower part of At Djailoo valley. Overnight in tent camp. (LD)
Altitudes during the day (above sea level): Djili Suu pass – 3700m, overnight – 2850m
Elevation: +350m, -850m. Distance: around 8km. Time on the way: around 4-5hours

Day 3
At Dhailoo gorge

Radial hike to high mountain lake in At Djailoo gorge. Overnight in tent camp, at the same place. (LD)
Altitudes during the day (above sea level): At Djailoo lake – 3500m, overnight – 2850m
Elevation: +650m, -650m. Distance: around 10km. Time on the way: around 5-7hours

Day 4
At Dhailoo gorge – Jety Oguz gorge – Tilety gorge

Descent down, then hike up along Djety Oguz gorge till confluence of Jety Oguz and Tilety rivers. Continue hiking and stop for overnight at the footstep of Tilety pass. Overnight in tent camp (BLD)
Altitudes during the day (above sea level): the lowest point – 2300m, the highest and overnight point – 3000m
Elevation: +700m, -500m. Distance: around 14km. Time on the way: around 7-8 hours

Day 5
Tilety pass – National park in Karakol gorge

Hike over Tilety pass. Descent to Karakol valley along Tilety river. Overnight in tent camp. (BLD)

Elevation: +700m, -500m. Distance: around 14km. Time on the way: around 7-8 hours

Day 6
Radial Hike or day of rest

Radial hike to upper reaches of Karakol gorge where you will see Karakolsky peak (5216m), which is the highest point of Terskey Ala-Too range. Overnight in tent camp. (BLD)
Altitudes (above sea level): highest point – 3050m, overnight point –2550m.
Elevation: +500m, -500m. Distance: 10-15km. Time on the way: around 5-8 hours

Day 7
Karakol gorge – Ala Kul Lake

Descent along Karakol river till confluence with Kurgaktor (Ala kul) river. Crossing Karakol river by bridge and ascent toward Ala Kul Lake. Establishing camp on a lakeside or lower on a flat spot below waterfall.  Overnight in tent camp. (BLD)
Altitudes (above sea level): highest point & overnight point – 3450-3550 m.
Elevation: +1000m. Distance: 5-8km. Time on the way: around 5-6 hours

Day 8
Ala kul Lake – Altyn Arashan gorge

Ascent to Ala Kul pass. From the highest point there will be great view to the lake and mountains. Descent along Keldike river towards hot mineral springs in Altyn Arashan gorge. Dive into forest zone. Reach destination.
Overnight in guest house.(BLD)

Elevation: +450m, -1350m. Distance: around 12km. Time on the way: around 8-9 hours

Day 9
Altyn Arashan  – Karakol town (40km)

Transfer to Karakol by car. (BLD)
Altitudes (above sea level): Finish point in Karakol town – 1800m
